It’s no secret Southerners love whiskey. With so many wonderful brands scattered throughout the region, ranging from large, iconic commercial distillers to small, family run operations, it’s pretty easy to find one that fits your tastes.
If you prefer to enjoy your whiskey in a cocktail, though, then this drink is worth a try. Effectively a negroni but made with whiskey instead of gin, a boulevardier packs a punch - both in flavor and in strength.
We chose "Alabama Style" from the Clyde May's Whiskey offerings to make this version because its apple and anise notes pair well with the sweetness of the vermouth and the licorice aspects of the Campari. Hence, the Bama Boulevardier!
Ingredients
1 1/2   ounces Clyde May's Alabama Style whiskeyÂ
1         ounce Campari        Â
1         ounce sweet vermouth         Â
1                     Luxardo maraschino cherry  Â
1         strip    orange peel
Method
Pour the whiskey, Campari, and sweet vermouth into a glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice, stir together, and strain into a glass of your choice, with or without ice.               Â
Garnish with the Luxardo cherry and orange peel. Â Â
Notes For Bama Boulevardier
We recommend Carpano Italia Antica Formula vermouth. It’s much sweeter and richer than other brands. It can be found at most liquor stores or wine shops.
