In addition to the traditional tomato salsa offered at TexMex restaurants, many in Texas also serve a spicy, white salsa to eat with the bottomless tortilla chips that come to the table. In essence, it’s homemade Ranch dressing with a lot of minced jalapeño mixed in. So, if you like Ranch dressing and a little kick, then this dip is for you.
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups buttermilk     Â
1/4 cup     Greek yogurt Â
1/4 cup     sour cream    Â
2 tablespoons    minced jalapeño        Â
1 tablespoon      minced chivesÂ
1 teaspoon         dried dill       Â
1 teaspoon         garlic powderÂ
1 teaspoon         fleur de sel    Â
1/2 teaspoon         onion powderÂ
1/4 teaspoon         dried basil     Â
1/4 teaspoon         granulated sugar       Â
1/8 teaspoon         died oregano Â
1/8 teaspoon         freshly ground black pepper
Â
Method
Whisk all of the ingredients together in a medium bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour prior to serving.
Notes For Texas White Salsa
To avoid getting pepper oil all over our hands and then likely in our eyes or on our lips, we mince the jalapeños in a food processor, seeds and all. The sauce is not as spicy as it may seem on paper, as the dairy mellows out the heat of the jalapeños. But if you are concerned, de-seed the jalapeño before you mince it.
